Microwaves are the one appliance where the honest call is sometimes to replace it, and we will say so rather than charge you for a repair that costs more than the unit. For built-in and over-the-range models, though, a repair usually pays off. Vaughan Appliance Pros services microwaves across Vaughan, all major brands, price quoted before any work.

When repair makes sense, and when it does not

A basic countertop microwave costs $100 to $200 new, so paying $150 to repair one rarely adds up. We will say so on the phone.

Where repair does make sense:

  • Built-in and over-the-range microwaves, which cost $400 to $900 to replace and often require removing cabinetry or a trim kit to swap. Repairing a $250 fault on a $700 built-in is an easy call.
  • Combination wall-oven microwaves, where replacement is expensive and disruptive.

That honesty is the point of calling a repair company that does not sell appliances.

Common microwave problems we fix

  • Runs but does not heat. A failed magnetron, a high-voltage diode, or a capacitor. On a built-in, worth repairing; on a cheap countertop, usually not.
  • Sparking or arcing inside. A burned waveguide cover or damaged interior. Stop using it and unplug it.
  • Turntable not turning. A cheap turntable motor, an easy fix.
  • Buttons or touchpad not responding. Touchpad or control board.
  • Door will not latch, or runs with the door open. Door switches, a safety issue worth fixing promptly.
  • Loud humming or buzzing. Magnetron or the transformer.
  • Over-the-range fan or light not working. Fan motor, lamp, or control, independent of the cooking function.

What microwave repair costs in Vaughan

Typical Vaughan parts-and-labour ranges. Exact quote confirmed before work.

Repair Typical range
Turntable motor $100 to $180
Door switches $120 to $220
Diode / capacitor $130 to $240
Magnetron $180 to $300
Control board / touchpad $180 to $300

Diagnostic service call typically $90 to $130, credited toward the repair when you proceed. See the cost page.

A safety note

A microwave stores a high-voltage charge in its capacitor even when unplugged, which is why microwave internals are genuinely dangerous to poke at yourself. If it is sparking, humming loudly, or running with the door open, unplug it and let a tech handle it.

Brands we repair

Frequently asked questions

My microwave runs but doesn't heat, what is it?

The heat side has failed, usually the magnetron, diode or capacitor. On a built-in or over-the-range unit that is worth repairing; on a cheap countertop model a replacement is normally the better spend, and we will tell you straight which one you have.

Is it worth repairing a microwave?

For built-in, over-the-range and wall-oven-combo units, yes, since replacing them is costly and disruptive. For a basic countertop microwave, usually not, and we will say as much instead of selling you a repair.

My microwave is sparking, is it dangerous?

Stop and unplug it. The cause is often a scorched waveguide cover, which is fixable, but the arcing can do more damage the longer it runs, so leave it off until it is checked.

Do you fix over-the-range microwave fans and lights?

Yes. The fan, light and vent run separately from the cooking side and can usually be repaired on their own.
